After receiving state funding last year, the Kirkland Trails committee has begun improving the towpath trail from Deansboro to Clinton. The first segment, Dugway Road south to the Marshall Town Highway Garage, provides a flat two miles of cinder packed trail along the old railroad route for walking, biking and running. Off the trail a lock on the former Chenango Canal, remains in almost the same condition as when built in the 1830s. More photos, Page 6.
