BCS Revote On Same Budget

Brookfield Central School District residents will see the same proposed 2024-25 budget when they do a revote next week.

BCS Superintendent Ron Pavlus explained to about 50 people at a special Board of Education meeting that the $8,297,772 budget is the right one for the District.

At the vote in May, the budget was defeated by two votes.

Residents can vote Tuesday, June 18 from 12 to 8 p.m. at the school.

This is the only chance to pass this budget; a second failure means Brookfield has to go to a contingency, essential programs only budget for next year.

Pavlus reviewed the proposed budget and spending, with 73 percent of the budget used for programs.

These include BOCES programs, New Visions, Safe Schools Mohawk and the Youth Mental Health programs BCS uses.

He also pointed out that Brookfield, like all districts, loses federal pandemic funding starting in September. “Rising costs are everywhere,’’ he said.

BCS will offer a dozen college courses with dual credit next year and continue the online Spanish program under the proposed budget.

The full story is in this week's edition of the newspaper.
