In putting together the 2023-24 budget, Brookfield Central School will consider some ways to keep costs down.
The budget of $8.1 million will receive just under $6 million in state aid. How to make up the revenue gap remains what administrators and Board of Education members discussed at a special meeting last week.
Business Manager Tiffany Lopesz outlined the third draft of the spending plan. Significant increases to spending for next year include $83,750 for a full year of the Safe Schools program that recently started. The program addresses mental, academic and social support for students and their families.
Four teachers would be hired at a total cost of $170,000, the cost that also includes contractual salaries for the teaching staff. Teaching positions to be added are instrumental music/fine arts, elementary special education, Earth Science and an art teacher.
Superintendent Jim Plows said employee benefits will decrease in the general budget as federal recovery money will be used next year.
In Capital improvements $100,000 will be spent to install LED lighting and $20,000 is budgeted to cover the cost of a truck not covered by a grant.
