Bridgewater FD Answers 85 Calls

As Bridgewater Fire Department Chief Bill DeKing said, it was a record the department could do without.


At last week’s Town of Bridgewater Board meeting, DeKing gave a report on the fire department. January, he said, was unprecedented in the department’s history.


Last month, Bridgewater Fire Department volunteers responded to 85 calls. “I can remember when we didn’t have 85 calls in a year,’’ he said.


Of those calls, 65 were for the ambulance. The remainders saw 10 for fire calls and 10 for motor vehicle accidents.


“We’ve been going day and night,’’ he said.


That pace also explains why the ambulance traded in for the new one coming next month had 80,000 miles.


Bridgewater Town Supervisor Dale DeKing, a member of the fire department as well, said there’s never been an ambulance with that much mileage.


The 30-minute meeting moved quickly to allow people to get home before the storm coming in.


Water Commissioner Jerry Perry said once the weather breaks and it gets warmer, some shoveling has to be done at the pump house.


He and board members talked about the impact of this winter.
