Brookfield’s Town Hall will receive another improvement with the addition of a generator system.
At last week’s Brookfield Town Board meeting, Town Supervisor Loren Corbin said the town will apply for funding through the state court system’s grants. The town court is on the second floor of the Town Hall.
Corbin said the system, which would respond automatically when the power is out for a certain duration, is in the $10,000 range.
In the past few years, after research showed it would cost too much to build a new Town Hall, Corbin and Board members have budgeted money to improve the building. Improvements include making the court handicapped accessible, new stairs outside and later this month, repairing the roof.
That work by Savage Operations of Earlville will also include chimney repairs and new rain gutters. Corbin said the cost will be $46,000, or $36,000 if the plywood on the roof can be reused.
Councilman Clint Abrams said during the two weeks the roof is being worked on, the fire whistle for the Brookfield Fire Department will be down. However, he said it’s not known if that will take the entire time the work is done or just…
