Brookfield Town Justice Recovering From Ordeal

Brookfield Town Justice Marylou Rhodes spent a night in the woods, hanging on for 12 hours to her car door and a tree branch that busted through her car roof.


Rhodes, a local artist, said she’s grateful for those who found her and have helped since in her recovery.


She’s at Waterville Residential Care Center until strong enough to return home.


It all started on the first day of the Madison County Fair in Brookfield.


Rhodes spent the day organizing some of the exhibits, feeling tired in the heat when she left.


Before going home, she stopped to see friend Crystal Cowen. And then before heading to her home on Gorton Lake, she swung by the Brookfield Town Building to take care of some justice business.


By then what she thought was tired and dehydration effects - but turned out to be pneumonia - caused her to take the wrong way towards her house.


She pulled over on Route 8, not sure where she was. A member of law enforcement saw her, asked if she was all right.


Rhodes said she didn’t feel good and wasn’t sure how to get home. She was pointed in the right direction.


Still woozy, she again missed the turn for her house. Again she pulled ...
