CCS Elementary School Principal Ed Waskiewicz gave a report on the ES's Building Goal progress.
Building Goal 1 about promoting a culture of social and emotional learning has seen the implementation of the BIMAS-2 and Second Step programs.
The Second Step lessons are tailored to the needs of the grade level to empower students to develop strong social-emotional skills benefiting them throughout their lives.
Teacher Kelly Landry said, "The program helps build social-emotional skills in pre-K and they can build on that through the rest of elementary school."
Second Step in-classroom Social Workers help students through lessons and a kindness quilt made by students is placed in the ES hallway.
Waskiewicz said the Pen Pal program "shows students there's a world beyond Clinton, NY."
Megan Foley spoke about the Positivity Project recognizing Clinton Elementary as a Green Shield School.
The 5th Grade Character Club delivered over 200 pies to Country Pantry.
Goal 2 on the topic of Coordination covered the Pre- K program.
Pre-K students are being conditioned to enter society and structured settings.
They're learning skills for school and have already progressed from the beginning of the school year not being able to recognize their own names and needing assistance with snacks and backpacks to independently eating and showing less separation anxiety.
The Pre-K program is available to all families in the community and the program is looking for opportunities for student trips around the community.
Building Goal Three on the topic of Consistency is about enhancing the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support.
Waskiewicz said, "We're refining the current MTSS process in order to effectively and efficiently meet the Academic, Behavioral, and Social-Emotional needs of all students."
Waskiewicz said there will be collaboration between District and Building Administrators to ensure alignment, develop clear roles and responsibilities, finalize documents, and determine the appropriate assessments.
