Clinton Receives Grants For Trees, Climate

The Village of Clinton Board met Monday night to discuss new business.


Clinton Mayor Elizabeth Tantillo read a thank you letter from the Kirkland Art Center for the successful KAC Run.


Tantillo read a thank you note from new parents thanking the community for the baby gifts.


The Board approved a resolution accepting the June 3 meeting minutes.

The Board approved a resolution auditing vouchers.


Tantillo said, "Everything looks good about the budget. Not a lot is going to change. Everything else is pretty good. The debt percentage was reviewed and the Village is within an allowable range."


The Board approved a resolution accepting General Fund transfers.


The Board approved a resolution accepting Sewer Fund transfers.


The Board approved a resolution accepting Water Fund transfers.


The Board approved a resolution approving a Social Security cost transfer.


The Board approved a resolution accepting the department reports.


Tantillo said, "The DRI award letters are in the mail. We met with the DOT and they wanted to understand how the Village Green Project will be affecting the roads.


“We said here are the things we're thinking about, but a few of the ideas were future projects so the Village Green Project is not going to interfere with the DOT project," she said.


Tantillo went over funds distributed to the Fire Department.


Clinton received a NYSERDA Grant and a $75,000 tree grant.


The Village of Clinton also has been awarded both a Bronze Certification under the Climate Smart Communities Program and a $10,000 grant under the Clean Energy Community Program for its climate-related work.


With this achievement, Clinton joins a small group of municipalities that are taking a leading role in meeting the challenges posed by climate change.


Tantillo said, “The projects to gain this level have increased the community’s awareness of the breadth and depth of activity in which we can improve our climate locally. We are proud to be part of the solution.”


While these awards recognize the Village’s past achievements, they will help the Village make additional strides in reducing its carbon footprint and building climate resiliency.
