Matthew Steates, a 2023 graduate of Clinton Central School, enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. After boot camp he went on the Northland Cutter. In August he graduated from Boatswain Mate school. He is stationed in Seattle, WA with the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. He is the son of James and Miranda (Boehlert) Steates of Clinton, grandson of Mark and Brenda Gray of Clinton, Violet VanEtten of New Hartford and Tom and Kathy Boehlert of New Jersey.
