Columbia Budget Starts Out Strong

West Winfield Star

The Town of Columbia opens 2025 in good budget shape.

At the Columbia Town Board’s December meeting, Supervisor Nathan Seamon congratulated Board members for putting together a strong budget for this year.

In 2024, he said, revenue exceeded expectations.

Highway Department Superintendent Mark Buddle said the winter got off to a rough start due to equipment issues.

These included a new turbo for $10,000 on the 2014 Western Star.

Some equipment was put up for auction, but Buddle said he might refuse the low bids and make counteroffers.

The completed dirt/pipe work held up in heavy rains after repairs.

Codes Enforcement Officer Ray Donley said 25 permits were issued in 2024. A few were houses; most were barns and garages.

Donley said he, Dog Control Officer Justin Davis and Cedarville Fire Department Assistant Chief Dan Coffin inspected the Golden Shoe Trailer Park.

Citations were handed out to residents, and they were told campers cannot be used as a residence.

Board members decided to wait before signing a 2025 agreement for animal sheltering.
