As a student at Clinton High School 20 years ago Gary Dougherty experienced the best of the best.
Dougherty stood in goal when the then-Warriors won back-to-back state championshops in 2005 and 2006.
He vividly remembers his dad, Gary, coming out of the Byrne Dairy on Route 5 carrying all of the Observer- Dispatches the store had for sale.
A big photo of goalie Gary graced the front page.
“My dad was sobbing as he came out of the store,’’ Dougherty said.
While hockey took up a lot of his passion and time since he laced up inn the Learn to Skate program, Dougherty also had another love. Music.
“I was that weird kid who left hockey practice to go to band practice,’’ Dougherty said. “My dad and my older brother introduced me to punk rock, Bob Dylan and I stole their CDs to play all the time.’’
