Work to move the former St. Mary’s Church in North Brookfield up the hill to the the Barnes property shows progress. Megan Barnes said there is still a few weeks of work to do, including two sets of I-beams perpendicular to each other under the building then the wheels - two under the front and one in the back - go in. Then contractors will build cribbing to drive it off what’s left of the foundation, do a 3-point turn in the driveway and drive it up the fields. Since it weighs just over 40 tons and it isn’t going up the road the move uphill has to wait for the ground to be good and frozen first. A Move the Church benefit has been scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 24 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the CJ Fulmer American Legion Post in Sangerfield.
