Kirkland 2025 Budget Explained

The Town or Kirkland Board met Wednesday evening to discuss new business.

The Board approved a resolution accepting the Sept. 25 meeting minutes.

Kirkland Senior Center Director Sharlene Machold said, "New members of the Senior Center are stepping up by cooking, and the Senior Center is taking a trip to Utica to attend a play soon."

The Board approved a resolution to schedule a public hearing to discuss the 2025 preliminary budget Oct. 23.

The Board approved a resolution to appoint Scott Bush as a part-time Police Officer.

Boardmember Rick Maxam said the DEC doesn’t have to test this year at the SWOCO landfill. The agency needs a new lawnmower.

The Board approved a resolution auditing the payment of bills.

Budget Director Tony Arcuri spoke to the Board about the 2025 budget.

"There's no tax increase and sales tax continues to grow.

“We'll continue to spend on capital projects. Two hundred thousand dollars has been earmarked for Kirkland Trails to match for grants.

“Some funds will be distributed for park improvements for pickleball courts. There are no scheduled purchases for police cars.

“We're expecting expenses of about $150,000 for a salt barn next year, and will probably make a decision on financing at end of November when the fourth sales tax check is received.

“The cost is expected to be around $375,000.

The interest rate increase leaves revenue to be around $345,000," Arcuri said.

The next Town of Kirkland Board meeting is Oct. 23 at 5 p.m.
