Kirkland Looks At Fire District Maps

The Town of Kirkland Board met Monday evening to discuss new business.

An EMT from the Clark Mills Fire Department asked the Board to adjust the Town's Fire District.

The fire district coverage map is currently defined so, geographically, the Clark Mills Fire Department is closer to some coverage areas that are designated to the Village of Clinton Fire Department.

He also asked for the Clark Mills Fire Department to be priority considered for local mutual aid calls as they've previously been bypassed.

The Board held a short discussion about the different philosophies of the Departments and previous attempts to combine the Departments into a fire district.

Chip Bassett of Kirkland Trails thanked the Highway Department for the work between Dugway Road and Route 12B.

Kirkland Trails want to have an opening ceremony Oct. 1 for that part of the trail.

Bassett also reported Kirkland Trails met with DOT Engineers and asked for a bridge to be used for the multiuse trail.

The DOT said it was a possibility. Bassett said Kirkland Trails currently doesn't have the $200,000 to cover the local share of their $1.5 million grant, but are hopeful to raise the funds.
