Medical Incident Leads To Crash

A 45-year-old Waterville man died after a crash on Route 20 in the Town of Sangerfield July 7.


According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Department, the incident occurred that Sunday night around 11:04.


When deputies arrived, they said they found David Rice had been driving a 2014 blue Dodge Ram west on Route 20, when he exited the roadway.


The vehicle entered a corn field, before the vehicle came to rest.


Deputies said that Rice likely experienced a medical event that led to the accident. Rice was pronounced deceased at Wynn Hospital.


His passenger, his mother, Joanne Rice, 67, of Waterville, was unharmed in the crash.


First responders included the Waterville Volunteer Fire Department, Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corp, Oriskany Falls Volunteer Fire Department, Oneida County Sheriff’s Department and the New York State Police.
