Mt. Markham Appoints Interim Superintendent

David Langone will serve as interim superintendent of the Mount Markham Central School District beginning later this month.


Langone retired as superintendent of the Whitesboro Central School District in 2016. Since then he has filled numerous interim roles as principal and superintendent in area districts.


According to the minutes of the March 25 Mount Markham Board of Education meeting, Langone will start at Mount Markham April 28.


He will take on the role until Sept. 1 or finish earlier if a permanent superintendent is hired.


Langone will fill the vacancy left when MMCSD Superintendent Joe D’Apice

leaves April 27 to assume the superintendent’s role in New Hartford.


He began with Mount Markham in the summer of 2020.


The motion to hire Langone passed 5-1.


Voting yes were Board members Jay Kulczak, Philip Casler, Robert Cross, Tom Huxtable and Jennifer Maine.


Elisa Gigliotti voted no and Kathleen Entwistle abstained.


Applications for a permanent superintendent are being accepted through Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES until April 25.


D.J. Shepardson, superintendent of HFHO BOCES, is leading the search for the District.


A Community Forum is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 16 in the High School auditorium.


An online survey is also being conducted by the MMCSD Board of Education through the District’s website.


The survey is open April 17-25.


Screening and selection of candidates will take place between April and May.


Board of Education interviews will take place during May and June Approval was given for FFA students to attend the state convention in May.


The retirement request of Elementary School Social Worker Heather Lewis Hoover was approved.


The resignation of High School Teacher Courtney Moore was approved with best wishes as of June 30.


Items included a short bus were approved as surplus for disposal.
