Mt. Markham Elementary Starts Strong

The Mount Markham Central School District Board of Education met Tuesday night to discuss new business.


The meeting began with a report from MMCSD Elementary School Principal Karen Rowe sharing pictures of the pre-kindergarten team providing a pumpkin patch.


Second grade teacher Jenn Giachavo was selected as a Kindness is Cool classroom by Kiss FM.


Rowe talked about the Vision and Mission for the Elementary School by providing a welcoming environment with communication between

family, students, and faculty.


Rowe said the Elementary School participated in the Village of West Winfield Fall Festival.


Ninety-seven percent of students participated in the assessment tests.


Two new programs for ELA program helped ES reach step goals toward 90% ELA students scoring at least a 2 on the test.


Chronic absenteeism decreased 21% from the previous year.


Boardmember Kathleen Entwistle asked if the chronic absenteeism rate change was more centralized on students still in the school or students who graduated to Middle School.


The ES has had some early challenges regarding the Capital Project in the cafeteria, gymnasium, and the clocks, phones, and speakers system.


A weekly newsletter has been issued every Saturday with pictures and recent events in the building.


Kids are responding well to the new food program. Star Reading program proficiency has increased 41.4% from 26.4%, STAR Math proficiency is up 10%, and STAR Early Lit. proficiency is 52.8%.


The MME Fall Fest Day is scheduled for Oct. 31.


Upcoming events are House Assemblies, Parent Teacher Conferences in November, Circus Day, and musician Jared Campbell visiting campus.The Board approved a resolution approving the Oct. 8 meeting minutes.


The Board approved a resolution accepting the recommended Intrafund Transfers, the July and August Extra Classroom Treasurer's Reports, and the August District Treasurer's Report.


The Board approved a resolution accepting the resignation of Food Service

Helper Darlene Bowie.The Board approved a resolution accepting the resignation of Full-Time Bus Attendant Theresa Southard to the position of substitute Bus Attendant.


The Board approved a resolution accepting the resignation of Recess Aide Tammy Seamon.


The Board approved a resolution accepting the resignation of Maika McConnell as a full-time Night Cleaner to continue as a substitute Cleaner.


The Board approved a resolution accepting the Memorandum of Agreement between the MMCSD, Theresa Southard, and the CSEA Mt. Markham CSD Unit #7114-00 Herkimer Local County 822.


The Board approved a resolution appointing Theresa Southard as Cook Manager.
