Mustangs Advance To Football Championship

The Mount Markham Football team defeated Cato- Meridian 21-6 in the Sectional semifinal at Jordan-Elbridge Friday night.


The Mustangs are the No. 3 seed in Class D while the Blue Devils were No. 2.


Mount Markham will play No. 1 Dolgeville Thursday at 5 p.m. at the JMA Dome in Syracuse.


Dolgeville is unbeaten with nine wins. Mt. Markham is 8-2 with one of those losses to the Blue Devils, 30-22. The game in the Dome is a rematch of last year’s Class D title game.


Against CM, Jamison Young returned the opening kickoff 24 yards for MM.


Trevor Lockwood rushed for two yards on first down.


A false start led to Young rushing for 17 yards on 2nd & 13.


Evan Kocienda rushed for two yards on first down. Lockwood recovered a fumble for a loss of six yards.


Arjay Piersma rushed for two yards on 3rd & 14. The MM punt was downed at the C-M 21-yard line.


A broken play led to a loss of eight yards on the C-M first down.


Richie Inman and Eric DeKing made the tackle after a three-yard rush on 2nd & 18.


Lockwood made the 3rd & 15 tackle after a five-yard rush. The C-M punt was downed for no return.


Young rushed for four yards on first down before Lockwood rushed for a 30- yard touchdown on 2nd & 6 with 5:21 to play in the first quarter.


Piersma made the point after try to give MM a 7-0 lead.


The MM kickoff went for a touchback. Jones made the tackle after a 13=yard rush on first down.


C-M threw two incompletions to set up 3rd & 10 for a 10-yard rush.
