Village Of Waterville Wins $4.5 Million NY Forward

The Village of Waterville was awarded a $4.5 million New York Forward grant last week that will fund up to $18 million of work in the Village.


Waterville was one of three communities to receive Downtown Revitalization Initiative funding in the Mohawk Valley region.


The Village of Schoharie was awarded a $10 DRI grant, and the Village of Canajoharie also received a New York Forward grant of $4.5 million.


The announcement was made at Schoharie High School with Secretary of State Walter Mosley attending to make the presentations. About 20 people from Waterville attended.


The program is funded by Gov. Kathy Hochul with a total of $200 million given out this year with 10 DRI grants and 20 NY Forward grants.


In 2023, Clinton was awarded a $10 million DRI grant. Work will begin this year on those projects approved.


“We’re breathing new life into our historic Mohawk Valley downtowns with investments that will make our communities brighter and more affordable,” Hochul said. “By bringing ambitious developments to certified Pro-Housing Communities, we’re building a better future for residents and for generations to come.”


This year, communities that applied had to be certified as a Pro-Housing Community.


In Waterville’s application, 30 to 35 new housing units were proposed.


This is the eighth year for the DRI program and third year for the NY Forward.


The DRI has invested in the creation of more than 4,400 units of housing—1,823 of which are affordable or workforce housing.
