Work Continues For DRI Grant

A walkabout this week by the Waterville DRI Committee with Thoma Development officials will help narrow in on projects and a zone.

Waterville First is leading an effort to apply for state funding for downtown and community improvements.

It’s the same Downtown Revitalization Initiative program that the Clinton- Kirkland community won in 2023.

While Clinton and Kirkland applied for and won $10 million, the Village of Waterville is still weighing two options.

One grant is for $10 million, while a smaller one would be for either $4.5 or $2.25 million.

Committee members have been collecting information for the application, which as of last week has not been announced by the state regarding deadlines and criteria.

It’s expected the applications will be due in the fall, with announcement of winners next spring.

A designated zone will be set to determine project area.

At a meeting last week, WF president Brian Bogan reviewed the information received by about 25 businesses and organizations.

That included past investment, future potential growth and jobs created.

Applications are weighed by community participation and a number of other factors, such as past investment by local businesses and organizations.

This week Thoma and members of the committee planned to walk around the downtown area.

This includes village land near the Firemen’s Little League field which could be used for a park and community center.
